OXNARD, CA — The Oxnard College baseball team earned a 10-8 victory over Rio Hondo on Tuesday afternoon, showcasing timely hitting and resilience to withstand a late-game rally.
OC jumped out early, plating two runs in the first inning. A sacrifice fly by Jonas Ballesteros and an RBI single from Bryce Weege gave Oxnard a quick 2-0 advantage.
Oxnard broke the game open in the fourth inning with a four-run surge. Highlights included an RBI double by Brayden Ferguson, a run-scoring triple from Luis Cervantes, and additional RBI contributions from Josh Nichter and Jacob Stringer, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Rio Hondo battled back in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring six runs combined to cut the deficit to 8-6. However, the Condors responded immediately. In the bottom of the seventh, a sacrifice fly by Ferguson and an RBI single from Cervantes extended the lead to 10-6.
Rio Hondo made things interesting in the ninth, adding two more runs, but Oxnard reliever Kaeden Pilanca closed the door to secure the victory.
