Oxnard, Calif. — The Oxnard College baseball team showed resilience and timely execution Friday afternoon, edging West Los Angeles College 7–6 in a tightly contested nonconference matchup at home.
West LA jumped out early with two runs in the first, but the Condors answered immediately. Oxnard plated three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead, highlighted by run-producing outs and a clutch RBI single from Justus Smith. From there, the Condors steadily applied pressure, scoring in four different innings and building a 7–4 advantage through six.
Offensively, Oxnard tallied 13 hits and seven RBIs. Luis Cervantes led the way, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Bryce Weege had a big day at the plate as well, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs. Jonas Ballesteros added a double and scored twice, while Isaiah Justo and Josh Nichter each delivered key RBI singles.
On the mound, starter AB Crist-Bryd worked five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) to keep the Condors in control early. Chasten Rice followed with three strong innings out of the bullpen, and Kekai Adams closed the door in the ninth to secure the win.
West LA mounted late pressure with unearned runs in the seventh and ninth, but Oxnard's pitching and defense held firm in the final frame to seal the one-run victory.
The Condors improved with the hard-fought win and will look to carry the momentum forward as the season continues.
