Oxnard, CA — The Oxnard College softball team delivered a dominant offensive performance on Wednesday afternoon, using a five-run third inning and a seven-run sixth to power past Santa Monica College, 12-4, in Western State Conference action.
After falling behind early 2-0, the Condors responded in a big way in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore standout Amber Cervantez highlighted the rally with a bases-clearing double, driving in three runs to give Oxnard a 4-2 lead. The Condors would tack on another run in the inning to take control at 5-2.
Santa Monica chipped away, taking advantage of a few Oxnard miscues to close the gap to 5-4 heading into the sixth inning. That's when the Condors put the game out of reach.
Oxnard erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and defensive errors by the Corsairs. The inning featured RBI contributions from Alizsa Rosas, Janice Ambriz, and Alexah Espinoza, along with heads-up baserunning that led to multiple stolen bases and runs crossing the plate.
Cervantez was outstanding both at the plate and in the circle. She finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while also earning the complete-game victory. In the circle, she allowed just five hits and one earned run while striking out nine.
Marylou Flores added a strong performance, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Alizabeth Rosas contributed two runs, an RBI, and three stolen bases. As a team, the Condors showcased their speed with multiple stolen bases, creating constant pressure on the Santa Monica defense.
Despite committing seven errors defensively, Oxnard's offensive firepower proved too much to overcome, as the Condors improved their standing in conference play with the convincing win.
Oxnard will look to carry this momentum into their next Western State Conference matchup as they continue their push through league competition.
