Condor Softball Battles; Comes up Short
Oxnard's 17 hits in the DH not enough.
OC Softball played Porterville on a cold Friday afternoon, but again the Condor bats were hot. Oxnard had 17 hits in the two games, but fell short against the Pirates.
Oxnard dropped game one by a score of 5-3. Destiny Murillo (pictured) was near perfect at the plate, going 6 for 7, with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI's, a stolen base, and a double.
In the bottom of the 1st, Murillo singled to center field, scoring freshman Charlie Holman. That made the score 2-1 after Porterville's Kuea Angilau hit one of her two home runs on the day.
In the 4th inning, starting pitcher Jayleen Bonilla then singled to left field, with Murillo scoring from second base, to bring the Condors within one run, 3-2. The Pirates scratched again in the top of the fifth, to make the score 4-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Murillo singled to center field, RBI, and Katlyn Acosta advanced to second, with Holman scoring. That would be as close as they would get, with Porterville adding on an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning.
Game two saw the Condors fall 5-1, but not without Destiny Murillo going 3 for 3 at the plate. Katlyn Acosta was 1 for 3 and Giselle Roldan was 1 for 3.
The Condors played hard in the chilly home-opener, but Porterville had too much in the end.
"The Porterville Head Coach (Vickie Dugan) said that was the best Oxnard team she's seen," said OC Head Coach Erin Lawley. "That was nice to hear after we battled all afternoon."
OC will travel to the Mt. San Jacinto Tourney starting on Friday afternoon.
